: How old are you?
A: I was born in December 1990.
Q: What does Hz stand for?
A: Heat Zone. My old website was www.HeatZoneOnline.com but the company who I
paid to host my site went out of business and I lost it. To bounce back I signed
up with another web hosting service, but I felt Heat Zone Online was too long of
a name. I thought “Studios” always had this cool ring to it, so I turned Heat
Zone into Hz and created Hz Studios.
Q: How long have you been making films?
A: My first film I ever made was Horror 13, and that came out on July 30th,
2003. However, before that I used a computer game called 3D Movie Maker and made
shorts. Those were done back in 4th grade with my best friends around 1999.
Q: Your movies are so cool! Can you make one for me?
A: I can try, and I say that because I’ve got my own things to take care of, and
I don’t know if I’ll be able to make time for you to do it. However, if I have
the time, I will help you out. However, there is one very firm requirement:
1. You must be prepared. I will not help you out if you waste my time and have
me waiting on you. The main idea, some form of a script or play by should be
written up, and any other actors or team you have established must be ready.
It’s also a nice touch if everybody’s friendly and cooperative.
Q: How much do you want to be paid for your help?
A: It depends on how long of a movie you'd like to make, location, concept, and
all that jazz.
Q: What type of computer do you use?
A: Up until early 2008, I only used Windows. In the very beginning when I
started making movies I had a Windows 2000 (which is called the worst version of
Windows to ever be released). After so much frustration, we installed Windows XP
on our current system to better the performance. However, keep in mind I still
had all the Windows 2000 hardware, like a Pentium 3 processor, 80 gig hard drive
with 384 MB of ram. So as time went on, my computer just could not keep up with
my movies. In early 2008, I bought a Mac Book Pro, with 2.0 Dual Core Processors
upgraded the hard drive to 1200 Gigs (using an external hard drive) and upgraded
the ram to 4 Gigs. Let’s just say now that I’m very happy.
Q: What programs and cameras do you use movie wise?
A: When I started in 2003, I was using a kid’s computer game called Digital
Blue, which came with its own camera. (The camera is fairly good for a kid’s
toy, and is superior to cell phone video capture.) However, after 2 years I
became restless and frustrated with the programs limitations and began using
Windows Movie Maker to edit. Then for Christmas 2006 I got my first real video
camera, a Sony Handy cam that runs on mini DV’s (which I prefer over hard drives
or DVDs). When I got my Mac, (after installing a version of Windows XP) I ran
Adobe Premiere Pro 2 to edit my films, and eventually started using Final Cut
Pro 6.0, which was used to edit the movie 300. I now use a Sony HVR-A1U High
Def. Camcorder
Q: Wait, you have Windows on your Mac Book Pro?
A: Yes. There is a program out there called Parallels, which lets you install
Windows on your Mac (it must be Intel based) and lets you run both operating
systems simultaneously. It’s very handy.
Q: What programs do you use to edit your site?
A: To build the website I use Windows FrontPage 2003 which is very handy to me
since I build sites visually, not with html code.
Q: What do you use to create all your images?
A: Mac Version of Photoshop CS4.
